Update
Make BGZ New Layout yours: dark mode, corners and accent colours
The new layout now has a Look menu with Light, Dark and Auto, a corners slider and eight accent colours.

BGZ New Layout just got its own set of looks. Click Look in the top bar and you can change how the whole layout feels, without leaving the page.
What is new
Light, Dark or Auto. Auto follows your device, so BG Zone goes dark when your computer does.
Rounded corners. Slide from sharp to very round. Past half-way, the puppy on the start page sits in a big, wobbly blob.
Accent colours. Pick from Yellow, Orange, Coral, Pink, Lavender, Sky, Mint and Lime. Yellow is still the default.
Your choices are saved on your device, so BG Zone opens the way you left it.

BG Zone now cuts out pictures with Nuvo 9 PRO, built on the ISNet model. It is better at clean edges around people, pets and products.
If Nuvo 9 PRO cannot run on your device, BG Zone switches to Nuvo 9 automatically, so you still get your cutout.
Good to know
The model downloads once and your browser keeps it, so later cutouts start faster.
It runs on your graphics card in Chrome and Edge, and on your processor in other browsers.

BGZ New Layout puts everything on one page: drop in a picture, and a numbered tool rail runs down the side with Cutout, Background, Effects, Adjust and Design.
It is out of beta and available to everyone in Settings → Layouts. Pop UI 2 is still there too, now marked Legacy.

The Image Playground now has a Speed slider. Slide it towards the snail and BG Zone gives your graphics card short breaks while it works, so your computer stays cooler and quieter.
While a picture is being made, you now see moving dots and a blurry preview that gets clearer as it goes.

Better support for Firefox and Brave
Cutouts now work in Firefox, and BG Zone tells you when Brave is blocking the AI files.

Add a picture. Click Choose a picture, drag one onto the page, or paste with Ctrl + V.
Wait a moment. Nuvo 9 PRO finds the subject and removes the background automatically.
Check the edges. Use the compare button to see before and after.
Download. Click Download for a transparent PNG.
The first cutout downloads the AI model once. After that, it is much faster.

Open the Background tool.
Pick Dark, Light or tap any colour. Use Custom to choose any colour you like.

AI images work your graphics card hard. The Speed slider lets you trade a little time for a cooler computer.
Red zone: full speed, your graphics card works as hard as it can.
Yellow and green: short breaks between steps.
Blue, near the snail: long breaks. Slowest, but the coolest and quietest.
While BG Zone rests, it tells you: "Giving your graphics card a break".

Use a picture where the subject stands out from the background.
Good light helps. Avoid deep shadows across the edges.
Keep the subject in focus. Blurry edges make blurry cutouts.
Leave a little space around the subject.
Bigger pictures give the model more detail to work with.
Hair and fur work best against a plain background.
Check the result with compare, then touch up with the brush if needed.

When you add a picture, BG Zone shrinks a copy to the size the model expects and hands it to Nuvo 9 PRO.
The model looks at every pixel and guesses how likely it is to be part of the subject. That guess becomes a mask: white for the subject, black for the background, and soft greys along the edges.
BG Zone then scales the mask back up to your full picture, cleans it, and uses it to make the background see-through.
All of this happens on your device, usually in a few seconds.

Over the past year BG Zone has grown from a single background remover into a whole studio: the Photo Editor, the Image Playground, Support, Slide Beautify, stock photos, wallpapers and more. Every one of those tools has been free.
Starting with upcoming updates, we will begin adding paid tools to BG Zone. These are extra tools that sit alongside the free ones, for people who want to do more.
Why now?
Some of what people keep asking for costs real money to run: heavier AI models, tools that work in the cloud instead of on your device, and features that take a lot of time to build and look after. Paid tools let us build those properly, and keep improving everything else, without filling BG Zone with ads.
What this means for you
Nothing you use today is being taken away.
Paid tools will be clearly marked, so you always know before you click.
They will arrive a few at a time, in newer updates, not all at once.
We will share more about each paid tool before it goes live. Keep an eye on this page.

Drag across the picture to slide between the original and the cutout. Open it in BG Zone to change the backdrop or touch it up.

Icon pack
Restyles every icon in BG Zone. “Match theme” uses the pack each theme was made with.
Font
Changes the typeface across all of BG Zone. Fonts come from Bunny Fonts, and only once you pick one.
Text colours
The theme sets these until you change them.

On shows BG Zone’s offers: the wallpaper packs, the Support, Wallpaper packs and Tip jar widgets, and the banners that ask for a donation. Off hides all of them. Support me stays in the profile menu either way.

Image Playground Pre-Beta
Nuvo Flux makes pictures in the cloud with FLUX.1 [schnell] through Hugging Face, using your own key.
Make a free token at huggingface.co → Settings → Access Tokens, with the “Inference Providers” permission.
When you use Nuvo Flux your words go to Hugging Face and its provider, and the token is kept in this browser’s localStorage.
The other models never send anything.
